I
have a strong belief in always adopting and rescuing. My two
beloved rescues were Faith, my Great Dane mix and Max, my Cavalier
King Charles Spaniel. Sadly, both babies passed away over the
past year due to old age. Faith was adopted from Great
Dane Rescue of North Carolina, where she
was looking for a loving home for over a year. She was abused
and neglected, but then found me and was pampered and spoiled.
My new additions to my family is Makai, a Harlequin Great Dane.
He also was adopted from GDRofNC after
being tossed around to 7 different homes over 3 years only
to end up abandoned at Animal Control. Not only now is he in
his forever home, but he is also a celebrity! He is the East
Coast Mascot for Pergo Flooring and has made appearances all
over North Carolina. Koa, is my newest baby and I am not exactly
sure what he is! He was found after almost being hit by a car,
wandering aimlessly through the streets, starving, dirty and
very sad. I fell in love instantly, cleaned him up, introduced
him to his new “Big” brother
and now he is in his forever home as well! Please always consider
adoption! There is no better reward then to save the life of
a loving sweet baby!! |
Born
and raised in Newton, a suburb outside of Boston, Massachusetts,
my love and passion for fitness began at a young age. I studied
dance (jazz, ballet and tap) for years in elementary and junior
high school. Once I started high school, I pursued cheerleading
and competed internationally on a competitive squad. Once in college,
I focused my efforts on the dance team and my studies in criminal
justice. My focus soon was directed to my career in the criminal
justice field and I put my love for dance and being on stage on
hold. I attended Northeastern University’s College of Criminal
Justice and worked part-time as a Crowd Control Officer for the
Boston Red Sox for five seasons. What a blast I had working for
that team! Too bad I missed the World Series…I always had
faith in the BoSox! During that time, I had auditioned for the
New England Patriots Cheerleading Squad, however after making it
to the final auditions, I realized that it would conflict with
my desire to pursue a law enforcement career and I made my career
my priority.
For the next few years, I finished up my studies
and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal
Justice. In addition to my love for the CJ field, one of my other
passions in life is a great love for animals.
I always believed in a strong correlation between animal abuse
and violent crime, and decided to combine my experience in criminal
justice with my love for animals. I worked for the MSPCA at one
of their shelters and was able to save the lives of many homeless
pets. One year after graduation, I decided to relocate to paradise
and moved out to Honolulu, Hawaii. I trained
with the Honolulu Police Department as a Police Officer Recruit.
That is where my passion for fitness truly began. As P.O. Recruit,
I underwent 7 months of intense and grueling physical training
through the academy. I was pushed to my absolute physical limit
and overcame so many physical challenges. It was the best feeling!
I even beat my whole academy class on the sit-up competition and
was the last one still going strong after about 250! That was fun!
Despite my love for law enforcement and deep respect for the beautiful
islands of Aloha, life turned in a direction that I never thought
it would and back on the mainland, down south in Mooresville, North
Carolina, otherwise known as "Race City USA", the heart
of NASCAR.
I have been in Mooresville for almost seven years
now. The first four years here was spent pursuing my career in
the CJ field as a Private Investigator. Although I loved the excitement
of surveillance and the adrenaline rush, there was still a piece
of the puzzle missing – my love for fitness. In 2004, I competed
in my first fitness model show and was hooked. I had not realized
how much I missed the stage! Since my first fitness model competition,
I have had the pleasure to shoot with many well respected photographers
in locations such as Miami, Los Angeles, Boston and Jamaica. I
decided to make a career change and go back into the fitness industry
full time while of course staying a Private Investigator, but only
on a part-time basis. Over the next two years, I became the Assistant
Manager at Gold’s
Gym, became certified as a Personal Trainer and trained clients.
Considering I live in the heart of Nascar, many of my clients were
Nascar drivers and pit crew members. That led me to my current
endeavor... the owner of my own business called Racing Edge
Fitness!!
Racing
Edge Fitness was founded in early 2007 with
the goal of providing good quality, great tasting, well balanced
healthy meals to some high profile NASCAR Cup teams. With their
meals, proper supplementation and fitness consultation services
were also provided with overall nutritional guidance. The concept
caught on and now I am servicing the majority of the NASCAR community
along with Cup and Busch drivers, Crew Chiefs and Pit Crew Members.
I am also the Team Trainer for Rusty Wallace Inc. For the 2008
NASCAR Season, I will be traveling with my teams all across the
country to the various race tracks so I can provide my healthy
meals to the guys on the road. In addition, Supermodel Niki Taylor
is also a client of mine who I have helped get in shape for her
new television series "Make Me a Supermodel" on the
Bravo Channel. For more detailed info on my company, please click
the link to Racing Edge Fitness. We might be coming to an area
near you!!
Currently, I am a Certified Personal Trainer. I am
also completing my studies to be a Certified Nutrition Wellness
Consultant and a Sports Nutrition Consultant. In addition, I am
in training for my upcoming competition season starting in April
of 2008 at the Fitness Atlantic Show in Connecticut. Check out
my schedule for updated show and photo shoots for the ’08 Season!
My desire is to promote
the importance of health and fitness, especially throughout the
Nascar racing community. A healthy body, leads to a healthy mind
and soul.
One
last note...my tattoo! Of course I must answer that very frequently
asked question. It is a Hawaiian symbol for a Sea Turtle. In Hawaiian
it is called a "Honu" According to the legend, it means
long life and prosperity. For me it means much more. It is a symbol
of my love and respect for our environment, especially all of God’s
creatures. It is placed on the left side, pointing towards my heart.
I got the "Mom Honu" first, before entering the police
academy. The three "baby Honus" came after, as a sign
of a re-birth.
If you believe, you can achieve it! We all have the
ability to create the exact life that we want. All you have to
do is BELIEVE!
